§ Tell us a Little about Yourself:
I've had a passion for jewelry and accessorizing since I was 7 years old. To me, accessorizing makes an outfit more than the outfit itself. I like to focus on a tasteful balance of accessorizing and clothing. I would consider my style to be chic with a grunge edge. I am 23 but my style is common for the age range 18-40. After working in a design background and selling side of merchandise it was easy for me to decipher and design for the demographic of women who would buy my line. I have always enjoyed blogging and one day it occurred to me to pursue my own dream of my own line and simply blog about how to accessorize with my style and include my passion for interior antiques!
§ How has your childhood helped you develop your style?
Travel and lots of it. The further I went from where I grew up the more I learned about art and culture. My grandparents have traveled nearly everywhere and brought back jewelry and little gifts from anywhere they went. Our Christmas gifts contained whatever they came back with from that year and a piece of silver Tiffany jewelry. From a young age I was exposed to culture and fine jewelry and I feel very blessed to be able to say that.
§ Who is your style icon/ icons?
My long time icon would be Audrey Hepburn for the obvious reason of Breakfast at Tiffany’s. Currently Kylie Jenner is my spirit animal and her style never disappoints. My favorite designer is definitely Alexander Mcqueen. I’m also into interior design so another one of my favorites is MacKenzie-Childs. That obsession started when Neiman Marcus began carrying it in Short Hills Mall. When I was a kid I was obsessed with their furniture and even did an art project on their tea pots in 5th grade.
§ What inspires your designs?
History plays a major part in it. Especially 90’s trendy and modern jewelry from that era. I firmly believe styles return in more modern forms and better quality.
§ What is it that you hope to achieve in the fashion world?
I hope to make anyone who wears my designs feel like they would be accepted in the fashion world or any world for that matter. Girls are very competitive and as a bully victim I know first hand acceptance is a major part of growing up and even in the young adult world. When someone wears my jewelry I want them to feel good about themselves. There isn’t any woman who hasn’t heard the saying “diamond’s are a girls best friend” but I say your favorite piece of jewelry can be your best friend especially if you’re wearing it everyday and not everyone can afford authentic diamonds.
§ If you could change something about the fashion world what would it be and why?
TOO MANY ACCESSORIES! That makes me crazy. Less is definitely more. Subtle, sleek touches are all you need to accent your style. Even one statement piece is enough. Don’t get me wrong I’m all about expressing yourself but why spend so much money when you don’t need all that stuff?
§ What makes you unique as a fashion blogger and jewelry designer?
The inspiration behind my work. I like to bring back popular styles from as late as the 90’s in a look that is more appealing today. Mixing gold and silver is another key in my designs because I never want to limit the color of hardware on the perfect handbag, which typically uses gold, silver, or gunmetal. I love French history in the 1700’s era and I fell in love with Paris when I went to the Louvre and toured Napoleon’s apartment which is where I took the homepage picture on my website. Without traveling I want people who view my blog to see culture from my favorite parts of the world that I have been to. I’m obsessed with crystal fixtures and silver antiques and always have been since my mother would take me to Capitol Lighting as a kid when I couldn’t stop crying.
§ What can we expect to see at the official launch of Lauren Reilly Jewelry ?
Chokers! 90’s fashion first I’m sooo excited but I can’t say too much!
§ What is your personal fashion philosophy ?
Wear what makes you comfortable. There is nothing worse than wanting to change while you’re out and about. Also, less is more when it comes to accessories and I can’t stress that enough. When you have that perfect conversation piece, you’ll turn heads.
§ Looking back at this past year what are your greatest accomplishments ?
Starting my business! I was very nervous at first because I’ve had a crazy year in my career with different jobs and figuring out where to reside because it had to be Florida or NJ so I cannot wait until next year when I can hopefully move back down to Delray Beach.
§ What are you looking forward to in 2015?
A breath of fresh air. I feel comfortable knowing I can continue to focus on what I love doing. I hope to create an anti-bullying organization or a ring that represents commitment for anyone who wears it that they will not take part of bullying.
As a young woman starting your own busiess, what is your advice for other women launching their own careers?
Don’t hesitate especially if you have support. It’s very rewarding, just do it.
§ Describe your jewelry line in 5 words
Chic, iconic, versatile, exclusive, tasteful.
§ Your favorite quote:
Happiness is chic.
§ If your life was a movie, what would the title be?
The life of Reilly!
